A Salford-based dark electro, alt-dance duo.
“We exist on the edge of the analogue-digital divide.
Sometimes dreaming, always dancing. Cork at heart.”
Due to a life long Smiths and Morrissey obsession and a perverse attraction to Mark E. Smith, one half of Factory Acts moved to Manchester where the die hard Fall Fan other half was encountered. Musical bonds were forged following an afternoon of miming David Bowie album covers, playing lyric roulette with PJ Harvey songs to the bass rhythms of New Order, the harmonies of the Human League, and with the edge of The Knife and the soul of Siouxie.
But it wasn't until a few years later with the accidental creation of a new sound, and a hastily written two song instrumental debut at Salford Lads Club, that Factory Acts were born. Rising from obscurity on Easter Sunday 2012 with their first full set followed by a headline slot for Umbrella Music in Manchester. Now based in Salford, for less than a year Factory Acts have been regulars on the local gig scene, including playing the Salford Music festival in September 2012 and headlining the ‘Pussy-Whipped’ festival in Edinburgh the same month. Factory Acts work hard to support local and touring musicians and have secured support slots with bands like Severin, Strangers, GHXST, Humaniser and Ste McCabe to name a few.
Fantasy was the first self-released single in August 2012, followed in October by their second single Senseless. Both songs have been receiving repeated airplay on BBC Introducing Manchester, Amazing Radio and Salford City Radio, Ireland’s 2FM and on many more local and international Internet radio stations.
Heading into studio soon to record the first EP and plan on celebrating its release with a summer Irish tour and a few UK dates along the way to the ferry. We can't wait to play our first hometown gig in Cork like, it’ll be de berries!
Factory Acts are SoS (aka Susan O'Shea) on vocals, synths and an assortment of squelching electro-gadgets, and MD (aka Matt Davies), the turner oner and offer of things and the drum and bass section.
From us you can expect lights, music and action! We will have a few new songs for you, never before played anywhere in the world - so it’s an exclusive!
